Yo-kai Watch 2

Yo-kai Watch 2's story follows the protagonist's quest to recover their memories after all their memories of the events of Yo-kai Watch 1 are stolen along with every Yo-kai medal they obtained. The story begins with the protagonist's parents fighting over where to buy manju. While their mother wants to go with Honke manju, their father prefers Ganso manju. Yo-kai Watch 2 comes in two versions: Ganso (Bony Spirits) and Honke (Fleshy Souls). The version bought determines which parent the protagonist sides with, which impacts the story as well as what Yo-kai are available to befriend. Later, the Shin'uchi (Star Performer) version was released, which allows the player to choose which parent to side with. It also allows players to befriend Yo-kai in the new Kaima tribe.

Yo-kai Watch 2 introduces many improvements over the first game, including new areas to explore, a time travelling mechanic, minigames, Yo-kai followers, and over 200 new Yo-kai. Fans of the first game will notice that some characters' personalities have changed to better match their anime counterparts. Additionally, characters have become more expressive, and there are many more anime cutscenes. Yo-kai Watch 2 also features a much more complex battle system, which is put to good use in competitive battles. Players can not only play against others online or via local wireless with a competitive ruleset, but they can also trade Yo-kai with each other as well. There is a total of 448 Yo-kai in Yo-kai Watch 2's medallium, and Yo-kai Medals are supported through the use of the 3DS' camera to scan the QR codes on the back of each medal. Scanning a medal gives a coin that can be used in the Crank-A-Kai to obtain a random Yo-kai.

Aside from the main game, Yo-kai Watch 2 includes a side game titled Yo-kai Watch Busters. This is a real time action game where players pick a Yo-kai to play as and work together with others over local wireless to take down a boss. Online play is not supported. This side game was later expanded into a full retail game with two versions: Red Cat Troupe and White Dog Corps.
